I ponder music in games
Music in games used to be memorable, like in Mario or Sonic. This is no longer the case because big orchestral scores might sound more professional, but are also forgettable. The only way to have memorable games music now is to have a “theme” or a “hook”. Brink does this to a tee. I really like Brink’s way of weaving that main theme into all the music of the game.
Also read my review of Brink. Whenever I think about games from a design perspective, especially how to weave in story, art, and music, I keep coming back to Brink. I think other reviewers gave it a really hard time.
