Daring leftist Pete Gray, furious both at Howard’s callous duplicity on the subject of Iraq, and the cruel trick played by nature in giving him the upper body strength of a four-year-old girl, removed both his shoes and hurled them in Howard’s general direction. As a protest, Gray’s action carried enormous power – Howard may be comfortable sending young men off to war, it said, but let’s see how he likes it, when small projectiles float momentarily through his line of sight. All in all, it was a perfect manifestation of the Left’s stirring motto, “When all else fails, do something pointless!� Although there were those who condemned Gray’s use of “violence�, suggesting they hadn’t been paying attention.
