My existance is comprised solely of gaming, eating and sleeping; only bodily functions hold priority over these. I can accurately be classified as an addict
, but to the casual observer people would say that gaming has taken over my life. The truth is that gaming is used as a medium to feed my actual addiction, that of escaping reality. My computer is an easy, readily available and relatively cost effective tool (considering the hours I spend on it), the most practical way for me to feed that desire.
Every now and again I see articles on the telvision and newspapers referring to gaming addiction, and while I can appreciate the negative affect that any addiction can have on someone's life, I do find the blatant tagging of "gaming addiction" to be somewhat unsubstantiated. Gamasutra has recently featured an article
which discusses this in a more eloquent manner.
