I got F-Spot just recently. F-Spot is a photo manager for Gnome (which is an operating system on the loonix platform I hear). I got talked at by a person who told me to organise my photos, and he talked about how great Photoshop elements is. I then got talked at again (can you believe it?) being told how great iPhoto is. I asked if the “i” was for “idiot”…
I got talked at by a guy at Sun about how there’s no applications on mono (which is the .NET framework for loonix) but F-Spot is, and so is Beagle, and they’re both the roxor, except they is crash all the times. I’m gonna stop typing like that now.
I like how F-Spot is a double pun on G-Spot, and F-Stop!
F-Spot seems to have some issues. I tried to upload a directory of files, and it randomly missed a few. I don’t know why. That’s probably the scariest thing, but there’s also niggles like if I try and import pictures from the same directory twice, those pics show up twice in my photos list.
Also, when tagging photos, the icon it uses for the tags in the normal view is the base icon, not the child icon. This makes it very hard to differentiate between “friends” and “family”, because they’re both “people”. However, in the 1-pic view it does show the child icons (so you can differentiate between the “friends” and “family” tags).
It also tends to crash when importing over 10,000 pics at a time, and takes a long time to do it’s importing. Hopefully these issues will be resolved before long, because it’s a kick-ass program other than that. Hell, it can even upload to flickr, etc.
